Chris Parry

Chris ParryI was born in North Wales and moved to Derbyshire at the age of one. I’ve always enjoyed food but never really got into it until I was about 16 and started working as a waiter in a 2 Rosette restaurant at a hotel in Market Harborough.

I was taught the fundamentals of cooking by the maitre d’ there and I manned the flambé trolley for two years, which I absolutely loved. I then moved into conference, banqueting and hotel management for six years until I finally decided that the kitchen is where I saw myself long term.

Since then, I have been executive chef and head chef at some of the best restaurants and gastro-pubs in Derbyshire. I was able to build a good reputation on local, national and international fronts on social media after an appearance on MasterChef: The Professionals in 2015. I didn’t do particularly well on the show but it was a huge help with networking with chefs from all over the globe.

In 2016, I set up a chef recruitment agency called Optimal Chef Services. This allowed me to be flexible with my working hours so I could enjoy some more family time with my wife-to-be Aimee and our boys Tristan, Elliot and Fabian. ‘Optimal’ operates in the Ripley area, and we place both permanent and temporary chefs of all levels across the UK and beyond.

I still have a huge passion for cooking even though I don’t work full time in the kitchens anymore. I love creating the recipes for Taste the Seasons and I hope the readers enjoy the dishes.
