Blok Knives was founded in 2012 by Ben Edmonds in his cellar and is now based in a converted cotton mill building in Darley Abbey.
Ben had always been fascinated by making and dismantling things. After watching a video of a young lad making a knife in his dad’s garage, he found his next project.
With limited tools and knowledge, he set about making his first knife. Many more followed until he was surrounded by his new addiction, and it wasn’t long before an order book formed. Jamie Oliver, Sat Bains and Tommy Banks are among the top chefs who own their own Blok knives.
Ben now works with a team of three staff members – Jack Stevens, Patrick Storrar and Alex Bates. All of their knives are lovingly handmade from start to finish, including grinding the carbon steel blades, sanding the exotic hardwood handles and creating the mosaic pins, which hold the handles together.
Proving to be a popular kitchen staple throughout the UK and overseas, there is now a seven-month waiting list to get hold of the Derbyshire-made knives.
